My D7500 suddenly went dead...

It first popped up ERR on LCD screen on all modes except Manual mode. Later , the camera did not respond to ON switch without any sign of life. Battery was fully charged few minutes before.

Have I lost this camera which I purchased from HDEWCAMERAS.COM ON 30 March 2018?.. any suggestions of what might have happened, pls?

Does it respond at all when there is no lens mounted? Since you are saying it’s totally not responding, it is less likely (assuming none of the buttons do anything and cannot get into the menu).

You could try leaving the camera without the battery in it for several days (but might need weeks, not sure on the life of it), to discharge the clock/setting internal battery, then plugging in a fully charged battery.

Could check to see if the mirror is moving correctly (I had it once, where the mirror stuck half way when the camera lost power, and didn’t reset correctly, but while I had Err, it still turned off and on)

If possible, try another battery, as it could be the battery is defective and not letting the camera power up either. If you don’t have one, a local camera store may have one you can use there to let you see if that is the case.

Wolphin. I inserted a fully charged original Nikon EN- EL15a 7.0v 14Wh. To my surprise and delight, it responded with no lens mounted. It’s OK on the Manual mode but still showing ERR on the back monitore and LCD when I turn it in other modes, i.e. A, S, P, etc. (I am attaching a pic as self explanatory )

I put on a Nikon AS-s Nikkor 35mm 1:1.8G and it worked well.

Re, your query whether the mirror is moving correctly, I cannot reply as I don’t know how to check the mirror. I would be much than grateful if you instruct me how, pls.

You already gave me hope as I was worried I’ve lost it….and being a septuagenarian …I cannot purchase another new one and I would have to abandon my hobby.

Pls see attached pics[image|2192317][image|2192319][image|2192318] etc

@Alfred Briffa with the camera in manual mode, it might let you hit the shutter release without a lens on it. You should hear the clicks of the mirror moving, and it should store a white picture.

Do you happen to have another lens to rule out the lens? It could be dirty contacts (the gold domes on the collar) or the gold squares on the top of the opening on the camera.

I have used cue tips dipped in Isopropyl alcohol, and make sure you don't leave anything behind. I tend to use each end only on one contact, to make sure each is clean.

According to nikon, the ERR message could be also an issue with the aperture lever: https://www.nikonimgsupport.com/eu/BV_ar...

@alfredbriffa Make sure isopropyl alcohol is close to 99% pure.
