I bought 2 Lenovo 300e Chromebook for my kids, and now one of them has a broken 3.5mm audio port. I’m trying to use it with an external headset for distance learning, and the headset speakers work, but not the mic. Any suggestions?

Hi,
The audio port is mounted on the audio sub board assembly (part #5P68C07640).
If you search online using the part number only in the search term you will get suppliers of the part.
Here’s the hardware maintenance manual for the laptop. While it doesn’t specifically mention how to remove the audio sub board, once you have opened the laptop hopefully it will be obvious.
Just remember the necessary pre-requiste step when working in a laptop, i.e. disconnect the battery as soon as possible after opening the laptop The power button is not a power isolating button. Even though the laptop is off, there is still power available at various points on the motherboard and you don’t want to create more problems if you accidentally slip when using metal tools. Think of the motherboard as being in an extremely low power state when it is off rather than it being totally isolated from the power supply. Also reconnect the battery as late as possible in the reassembly process, for the same reason

I have just had one of these in , the socket is very easy to remove with a standard soldering iron and solder sucker. Just need to found a replacement socket now.
