Why can I not charge my new battery / MacBook Air

I bought a new battery for my Macbook Air and I have already changed it. It came 50% charged and it was working fine but the thing is I could not charge the new battery and every time I tried and plugged / connected my MBA with charger there came no light (green or yellow) and the screen went black and slowly the new battery came empty.

Every time then I disconnected the MBA again from the charger it went to normal!

I have tried many things, disconnecting the new battery and cleaning some things but nothing worked. Du you have a solution or any idea what might be going on? Hopefully you understand my problem! :-)

If you can, let’s get a better view of things, install this gem of an app! CoconutBattery take a snapshot of the apps main window and post it here for us to see Bilder zu einer vorhandenen Frage hinzufügen

Thanks Dan for your reply but the thing is that now I can’t do anything on my laptop because the laptop is “dead.”

The laptop is out of “fuel”

But the battery is not the problem - it lies somewhere in the laptop itself.

The fan was working but the battery is not recharging. Hope you understand my problem.

All the best

If the MagSafe charger LED is not lighting up and you are sure you have a good charger, that leaves only two parts the I/O board and the main logic board.

I would first make sure you have a good charger first make sure you have a REAL Apple unit! Apple 45W MagSafe Power Adapter for MacBook Air

Hi again Dan and thanks for trying to help me out.

It is not the charger. We actually have two MBA and one MBP and we are charging them with MagSafe 2 Power Adapters, 60 and 85W from Apple. I did put a new batteries in both MBA´s and one is working, the other not. Brand new batteries.

that leaves us to like you say… “that leaves only two parts the I/O board and the main logic board.”

But which one is it and how can I find out? Just buying the I/O board?

I can change the batteries in the MBA´s and then I have a fully charged batterie in the “dead” one - I could then run the coconut battery but would that help? What would that tell us?

And how come that my laptop works perfectly normal as long there is some power on the batterie.?

Thanks again for your help,

Geir.

@Geir Sveinsson - That works! Charge the battery and transfer it over. I would do both batts (ID them in some way) so we don't loose track which is which. Give both a try to see if the problem stays with the system or follows the battery.

Running CoconutBattery at full charge won't tell us as much as when the battery is about 75% then charged (giving a good 3 minutes before you take the snapshot).

As far as the chargers I would stick with the 60 Watt charger with the adapter block.

@Dan - I changed the batteries and they are both fine.

I could not run the coconut battery because I need to upgrade the Mac Os first.

But like I said, the batteries are not the case.

I can work now normally on the "sick" MBA, as long I have power on the battery. As soon as I plug the power adapter to the laptop the screen turns black, I can't do anything and the battery doesn't charge. So most likely it is this I/O board (which I took out and cleaned) or the main logic board.

It is difficult to find this I/O board here in europe, (amazon and ifixit) but I will continue searching. But maybe it is the main board....

All the best

Geir.
