Screen replacement ribbon connectors will not seat

This repair is not going well. Initially, I removed the original screen from my iPhone 6 in its entirety and put it back together to ensure I could complete the repair. Then I ordered a screen replacement (item 268000-1) from iFixit and began the repair.

When I tried to finish the repair, I could not get the connectors on the 4 ribbon cables to stay seated. No matter what I tried, they will not stay in place. I even reconnected the connectors from my original screen - and those will stay seated. But, the new connectors won't. I do not know what the difference is, but the new ribbon cables cannot be installed. Any advice?

In addition, the connectors on the original screen have little foam backings which seem to allow the bracket to hold them down in place. The replacement screen does not have the foam backings and I'm worried they'll wiggle loose under the bracket.

What do I do now?

You may have some damaged connectors on the ends of the screen flexes. Take a closer look (use magnification if necessary) to see if there is any damage. You can also inspect the original screen to make side by side comparisons.

The foam on top of the connectors is always preferable and I’m a little surprised to see that an iFixit replacement screen doesn’t have them because they clearly show up in the store pictures. That said, not having them in place shouldn’t change the fact that the connectors should “snap” in place.

You can always contact iFixit support to see if they can replace the screen.
