Screen issues when I move certain windows around

Hello!

I have a Dell XPS 13” 9343, and when I move certain windows around, it creates screen issues in the corners. I’m not sure whether this is a hardware issue or a software issue, but I assume this is a software issue since I have been running the JScreenFix tool on my computer for multiple days. If anyone could offer any insight, that would be amazing. Thank you for your help!

The screen can appear when I delete the intel 5500 driver and use the Microsoft standard display driver. I have one question want to ask: Does this computer working on windows 7?

@canonredring Hi! No, this computer is running on Windows 10, version 20H2.

Hi @teslapuggalotsx ,

Have you got the latest video drivers installed, you didn’t say? Click on Category > Video to see the version number.

To see the version number of the video driver already installed, right click the Windows Start button on the left side of the Taskbar and select the Device Manager link. When in Device Manager > Display Adapters > right click Intel HD4600 adapter entry > Properties > Driver tab and find the driver version.

Try starting the laptop in safe mode and check. The screen will look different as only generic Windows drivers are loaded and not the hardware specific drivers. Also no startup programs will be loaded either so if one were interfering and causing the problem that aspect will be eliminated.

If it still occurs in safe mode it may be a hardware problem. Here’s the service manual for the laptop. Go to p.53 to view the necessary pre-requisite steps and then the procedure to remove / replace the display assembly. This will allow you to check the video cable connections at both ends to make sure that they are both securely connected and also to replace the LCD panel if it is deemed to be the problem.

Hello!

Thank you so much for your quick reply. I booted the computer into the BIST mode to check the screen issues, and it still happened. However, I checked my drivers, and it says that I’m using an old driver (Intel(R) HD Graphics 5500). How do I change the drivers? Thank you again!

Hi @teslapuggalotsx

Go to Device Manager and right click on the Intel adapter entry and click on Update Driver > Search Automatically for drivers and follow the prompts. You need to be online for it to update this way.

To install them manually download the video drivers from the link above and save them to a known location on the laptop. Then go into Device Manager as before and select Update drivers > Browse my computer and then navigate to where they have been downloaded to.

Bit surprised that you have the drivers for an Intel HD 5500 as this is a different graphics adapter to the Intel HD 4600 as shown in the Dell support page.

What device does it show in Device Manager > Display Adapter? Just verifying that the model number is Dell XPS 13 9343?

Hello!

I can confirm this is a Dell XPS 13 9343 because I entered the Service Tag into the Dell Support website. I also looked in the Device Manager, but when I try to update it, it claims that this driver is already the best option for my computer. So if I install a new driver, will my computer need to restart? And will I need to remove the old driver after? Thank you so much for your help!

@teslapuggalotsx

You mightn't be able to install it without uninstalling it first.

maybe try uninstalling and then restarting and allowing Windows to "find" and install the driver again when it restarts and then check as there may have been a corrupted setting in the installation. Worth a check first. As i said very strange that you say that it is a Intel HD5500 when the drivers shown on the support page are for a different adapter. If you know what CPU is installed I think that the graphocs adapter is integrated withthe CPUso that should tell you what it is. Just search for "(insert CPU make and model) graphics" e.g. Intel i7 4790K scroll down and find GPU

Hello!

I uninstalled the driver, and tried to install the Intel HD 4600, but it says that my system does not meet the minimum requirements. My second monitor that was connected to my computer turned blank with no signal, so I went to the Dell Support Page where they automatically re-installed the Intel HD 5500 driver, and my monitor started working again. I am still experiencing the screen issue as well. If I made a mistake, please let me know. Thank you again for your help!
