My laptop is stuck in an install loop.

My laptop has been running pretty slow for quite a few months but its brand new, so i decided i would try doing a restore to my last backup (which i created when i first got the laptop) in case i might have downloaded something that was causing this performance hit. i then realised my backup had disappeared so i did a reinstall of windows to factory settings, it did its normal windows install loop that took about 2-3 hours but then it just kept looping constantly turning itself on and off but keeps saying windows is installing at 64%, so i left it for another 3 hours thinking it was just taking longer than it should.

3 hours later. it was still in the same install loop, but now only 1 in every 5 reboots it would say how much of windows is installed and still say 64%. now i knew there was an issue, i have a windows 10 media tool USB and tried plugging that in and let it run for about 20 minutes hoping one of the boot loops it would go to the USB instead but nothing happened, it just kept looping.

anyone have any reasons for why my laptop is deciding to be in a boot loop with installing windows?

Hi,

Did it actually boot from the Win 10 media USB when you inserted it and restarted the laptop and not just from the HDD again?

Just verifying that you altered the boot priority and also changed BIOS settings so that it would boot from the USB.

The user manual for your model doesn't show the BIOS settings but usually it is either Legacy USB or CSM has to be enabled for it to boot from a USB.

I changed the BIOS multiple times to read the USB, it still read the HDD first. i managed to fix the issue just 10 minutes ago by reinstalling the media tool to the USB and plugging it into the laptop, loading the BIOS and forcing a load from USB, the laptop is back to working and fixed but i still have no idea why the windows went into a boot loop while installing

Also the BIOS it uses is UFEI not legacy as the model of my Acer Nitro doesnt show up in the ifixit list but it was close enough

@GeekSheekNerd

Most newer laptop's BIOS these days have UEFI but there usually is an option in BIOS to go to a legacy mode just so you can boot from a USB.

Did you look through all the settings, maybe check under either the boot menu or the security menu tab.

As I said the user manual I looked at for Acer an515-53 models didn't show anything about the menu settings in BIOS
