Wifi not turning on in my samsung S8.

I am unable to toggle my wifi. It just stays off. I suspect that it's a hardware issue. Tried updating and resetting. It’s a brand new S8.

Wifi is off and will not turn on after pressing the toggle button.

Ist dies eine gute Frage?

Hi @desipher ,

It's hard to toggle a wife ;-)

Please clarify your question. You state “Wifi not turning on….” and then say “It just stays on”. Which is it on or off?

By resetting do you mean a factory restore?

If not try performing a factory restore on the phone and then check.

Be aware that a factory restore will erase all your data and downloaded apps. It will restore the phone to its factory default state (or last system updated state). Backup your phone to a computer or the cloud using the phone’s backup feature before performing the factory restore.

Also if the phone has a Google account then remember what the user ID and password for the account is as you will need it to access the phone after it has been reset due to the FRP lock that is enabled when a factory restore is performed.

Once the phone has been backed up, use the phone’s factory restore feature to reset back to factory default and when it has check if the WiFi can be enabled / disabled OK.

If still no good then it is a hardware problem. As it is a new phone, consult the manufacturer’s warranty that came with the phone as to what to do to make a claim for a manufacturer’s warranty repair or replacement.

If it works OK, using the backup that was made earlier, restore the phone to what it was by using the phone’s restore feature.

Once it has been restored, check that the WiFi still works OK and that it can be enable/disabled OK

Sorry about the mistake in the question description. I fixed it. And yes I meant factory reset. A Complete wipe.

I took it to the Samsung Service center but they said they can't really do anything about it. So I took it to a local repair shop and now the dam thing won't even turn on. I don't know what is it they did but the phone is now hard bricked.

@desipher

Take it back to the repairer and show them unless they already know.

You gave them a working phone which had only a WiFi problem and you now shouldn't have a bricked phone.

Have they (or you) tried restoring it using Odin? If it doesn't respond then they are responsible for the problem and should be at least returning the phone in the same condition that they received it if they couldn't repair the WiFi.

@jayeff yeah he was completely aware that the phone doesn't switch on anymore. He told me that while he tried replacing the wifi ic, the motherboard broke in the process and there really isn't anything he or I can do about it unless I want my motherboard replaced which is super expensive. I am not sure about the odin thing.

@desipher

If the motherboard literally broke then he's responsible and should at least offer you some form of compensation for your loss.

He doesn't seem like a very professional repairer in my opinion
