Keyboard presses 2 additional keys when I press 1 key

Good Morning

I have a problem with my laptop keyboard only the QWERTY ,OP,AS keys are not working as per design. When i press these keys addional keys are being inserted aswell.

Example : When i Press “R” it displays as “-R” or “T” it displays as “TDG“.

The rest of the keys work fine.

I have updated drivers, Used PowerShell to exclude software issues, Windows 20h2 update, On screen keyboard works fine.

Hi @brendonmennegke ,

Have you checked that there is no key in the half operated position by checking each and every key to see that it is fully released and not stuck down in a half operated position perhaps, you didn’t say?

Try connecting a USB keyboard to the laptop and check if it works OK, just to further isolate the problem to the keyboard itself.

Here’s the hardware maintenance manual for the laptop.

Go to p.57 to view the necessary pre-requisite steps and then the procedure to remove the upper case. The keyboard is part of the upper case assembly.

Usually with keyboard problems it is easier to replace the keyboard than to try and fix it as you can introduce more problems than what there were originally when trying to find out what is wrong.

On p.86-89 Item #2 you will find the part numbers for all the country specific keyboards for the model. Search online using the part number only, to get results for suppliers. Usually the part number can be found somewhere on the underside of the uppercase assembly if you wish to verify that you’re ordering the correct one.

Hopefully this is of some help.

No half operations , none of the keys are stuck down.

External keyboard works fine

@brendonmennegke

Keyboards use matrix connections to the keys via diodes to limit the number of wires needed to connect to the motherboard.

All it takes is for a faulty diode or a short circuit across a track on the keyboard pcb to create the problem that you're experiencing.

You can try accessing the keyboard pcb and checking for the problem but go gently so as to not cause even more problems.

Ok thanks ill give it a go XD
