MacBook Air Charging Issues

Hi,

Just did a battery replacement on a MacBook Air and noticed some funky issues afterwards.

  • It powers up using the battery (no charge cable)
  • It shows the battery charging icon when plugged into power but the charge % doesn’t move. The battery % will go down if unplugged from the power however.
  • Left overnight on charge, it powered on with 100% showing the next day.
  • When clicking the battery icon it says Battery: Not Connected

Anyone else experienced this issue before or know of a fix?

Have also tried running apple diagnostics multiple times and it crashes within 10s of starting.

I no longer have possession of the machine in question as the client required it back the same day. I did check the system information about the battery (not sure of the exact name, still learning MacOS) and it said the battery was in good condition with 0 charge cycles.

It seems to be charging when left overnight according to the client but doesn't seem to update the % until it hits 100%. Draining the battery results in the % decreasing normally.

I did try to reset the SMC after the repair but no idea if it worked as there is no feedback. Have suggested to the client that we run the in built diagnostics as some people have reported that fixing their issue. I will make sure to run Coconut Battery and post the results when I get access to the machine again.

I’ve done some battery replacements in the past and sometimes it will take a few discharge and charge cycles for the battery to be properly identified. If the problems don’t work themselves out then I think a reinstall of the OS would do it some good. I suppose you could unplug then plug in the battery or test it with a different battery. Good luck!
