Lenovo AIO Won't Safe Boot, System Restore or Boot From Recovery USB

Hello,

My client has the Lenovo F0D3 and it is stuck on the Lenovo screen boot loop.

All attempts to safe boot, boot to recovery mode, boot from USB drive with windows for re-install don’t work. With the USB recovery stick in, the windows logo pops up for only 2 seconds before going back through the lenovo / windows screen flash boot loop.

I played with bios boot options from UEFI to legacy and nothing.

I correct the mobos time and dates and nothing.

None of the function keys work except for bios enter and mother board repair options which scan HDD for errors / bad sectors but found none.

No Windows systems seem to be loading.

What could cause this and how do I fix it?

(PS. I’m thinking of removing the HDD from the AIO PC and wiping it with killdisk then trying to reinstall windows on it… but would rather not have to, why wont any recovery modes work?!)

Hi @zstechfix ,

As a suggestion try booting a standalone program (example only) from a USB i.e. one that doesn't require a HDD or Windows to run, and see if the PC boots/runs OK etc. Disconnect the HDD from the motherboard.

I'm not suggesting this program just because it tests the ram but in doing so a lot of other hardware resources are also utilized as well, except of course the HDD sata controller.

Just trying to see if the PC will still boot/run successfully, at least from a USB.

Did you restore the BIOS to factory default just in case it was corrupted?

Also check the onboard RTC (coin cell) battery on the motherboard and make sure that it is >2.5V DC. Removing the battery and the time taken in testing it will also default the BIOS.

Have found in the past RTC batteries with <2.5V DC that the BIOS can sometimes become corrupted causing strange things to happen from no startup at all, to not passing POST to not booting etc

@jayeff Im trying to fix it without opening it up, seems tricky / damageable to open. If I could / did open it I will try that and also just reset the HDD manually.

Its strange it cannot accept any recovery options nor do F keys work for windows operations, only lenovo / mobo operations

@zstechfix

So the standalone program test didn't work either then?

Hi @zstechfix,

If you decide to open it up here’s the hardware maintenance manual for the AIO that will help.

If you need any parts here’s the parts list. Just click on Select Commodity to get the part type and then when you have it search online using the part number only to get results for suppliers that suit you best.
