computer can't go to sleep and screen comes up largely black for a bit

so i have the a1989 2.3ghz (2018 13” mbp with touch bar) and i got a new keyboard and screen for it myself because apple wouldn’t fix it for some reason… so i try starting the computer up and the apple logo and progress bar are on screen but then the screen MOSTLY turns black for about 30 seconds and then goes back to normal. also when i close the lid the computer won’t go to sleep and sometimes it messes with the touch bar.

I sold the computer to someone else a while back. Turns out a repair shop had a go at this before I did and tore off the lid switch on one side.
