How do I reset the SMC on a battery-less MacBook?

My A1502 MBP was not booting up even while plugged in, so I decided to disconnect the battery and use it 100% as a “desktop”. Problem is, I think disconnecting the battery has caused the SMC to go nuts, and it’s sent the fan into overdrive mode, and it’s definitely louder than even when I would manually set it to max using something like smcFanControl.

So, two questions:

A. How do I reset the SMC on this battery-bypassed machine? The old “hold the power button for 5s” method didn’t work.

B. In case the SMC can’t be reset without a working battery, is it safe to run the fan like this for a few months? It won’t stay on 24/7, but it’s not going to be used frugally either.

Thanks in advance.

Reconnect the battery and then do both of these:

Restart the system and press the D key to enter into the onboard diagnostics

Reference: Mac startup key combinations did you get any errors?

I would also get a better view of things, install this gem of an app! CoconutBattery take a snapshot of the apps main window and post it here for us to see Bilder zu einer vorhandenen Frage hinzufügen
