The roller on my Dyson DC 62 works for a few seconds, then stops

So, my Dyson DC62 seems ok, all cleaned, new battery, new filter.

When I start vacumming, it works for a few seconds, then it will stop for half a second and start again, but without the head brush rolling.

I have tried with 2 different heads, it´s the same.

Seems like it has to do with “resistance”: When I start “on the air” it works longer before it will stop, but if I put it down on the floor, only lasts 4-5 seconds…though, eventually, it will alwas stop and start without the brush rotating.

Spoke to dyson´s “chat”, all the say is that I should take to the repair shop, and they´ll fix it for 125 euros…

Any idea?

check the part that drives the head. be it a belt or wind rotor. also check the roller sides to be sure hair hasn’t clogged the bearings and if so remove and clean it. also adding a dry type of lubricant's to the bearings may help. If you only have wet types use silicon and only a little bit directly to the bearings. to much will attach more dirt.

Hi and thanks for your reply. I actually have 2 heads, one of them is almost new and super clean and the problem happens with both, the same way...I don´t think it´s anything to do with the heads...any idea of what it could be?

Thanks again.

@fdavidbs did you check the belts on the side of the brush head. Also there is a couple of connectors to transfer power to the heads. these can get corrosion on them. some 600 git sand paper should fix this. Also check the wires going from head to body. follow the video below to clean and check the connectors. it may not be exactly the same layout but it will operate the same way.

Thanks for all your help...I seem to have fixed it..but had to dismantle the main part, and moved slightly the connectors, then mount everything back together...and it works.

that's what I though it may be. dust gets up in there and slowly bends those over time if you don't clean it out every few months. be sure to mark solved on this question.

Just thought I'd post a link to this other helpful thread here, as if it isn't a brush head problem but ends up being electrical for some other poor soul, this is the best information point I've found for the Dyson Handheld DC Series of Vacuums: 0V missing at the brush head motor

On mine, this is happening with a brand new head, so is likely to be a machine issue since it happens with basically every powered head :(
