Lost ac power adapter for Dell Chromebook 11

I got a hold of a couple of Dell Chromebook 11 without the AC power adapter and I was wondering if there's a way to power them on without the power cord?

Ist dies eine gute Frage?

Hi @nevenlearn5150 ,

Given the cost of the charger it may be easier to simply purchase a compatible one than trying to connect a suitable power supply to the laptop i.e. voltage supply with a regulated, constant 19.5V DC voltage, with at least a 3.34A output with the appropriate DC barrel type plug connector.

Easiest way to damage the motherboard is to connect a power supply that is not exactly what the motherboard was designed for.

If I haven’t linked the exact one, search online for Dell Chromebook (insert model number) charger to get results for suppliers and prices that suit you best

See my answer - it's the commonplace fat tip 19.5V adapter my 7490 uses, as well as my retired 7440 and 6440.

Literally available at any respectable office supply store with laptops for sale.

@nick

Fair enough.

I was just trying to ensure that the OP knew what was required regarding voltage etc as it was asked "....if there's a way to power them on without the power cord?"

Hoping that they wouldn't just connect a near enough voltage supply directly to the laptop's motherboard (even AC, who knows?) thinking it would work, not knowing it may damage things before it even turned on.

Cheers.

@jayeff Yeah best to double check but it's probably 19.5V like a lot of non USB-C Dells. It usually says on the bottom what the voltage is like 19.5V on the 7440. I'll check my 7490 later but I think it's on the label as well.

von

@jayeff I posted a photo of the label that tells you.

The issue on some especially with a bottom replacement (though this happens more with "full fat processor" Dells, not ULV in most cases) is the amps don't always match, but if you want to check the tip voltage it's not an issue. If you put an i7 bottom on a i5 6440, then it will have the sticker for the i7 which points to 90W if you do VxA=W, when those need the 65 but benefit from the extra headroom.

That laptop uses the 19.5V wide barrel tip, which is super easy to find and can be purchased anywhere laptops are sold, especially Dells. The thin one can be a challenge, but not the wide tip because of how many laptops use it. Your Chromebook uses the same tip as my Lat 7490.

As long as it meets or exceeds the factory wattage (likely 65W, but could be 45W) it’ll work. I could let you use my 130W adapter as long as our tip voltages are the same (19.5V) despite the fact it’s a total waste. The adapter only draws what it needs so if you only need 65W max on a 130W adapter, you’re leaving 65W of max capacity on the table. Yes, sometimes mine is a waste too (like on mid spec Lats with the i5 and can run on 90W comfortably) but on the other hand say I power a i7-8650U 7490 - that headroom is potentially useful. Even the 8th gen-present 4C/4T or 4C/8T U series CPUs are not power sippers once you step into the world of i7 but aren’t power hogs like the old 47W MQ Haswells - they never made it into the E6440 for a reason.

Check this label on the back of the Chromebook to be sure:

Forgot to mention the model# CB1C13 lost the charger l have 2 of them and looking for a way to power them on, thank you to all who responded

von

@nevenlearn5150 You need the 19.5V barrel style adapter. Get a 90W if you can, otherwise 65W will suffice.

Dell offers all replacements via the phone. I would call them, explain the problem, and go from there. Hope this helps!

I didn't purchase these and don't have any paperwork

Do you have a link?

@nevenlearn5150 .You call dell (1 (800) 624-9896, and tell them that you need a replacement charger for a Dell Chromebook 11 (CB1C13) they should be able to get it to you for a lower price than an aftermarket charger, but just in case, here is a compatible one : https://www.amazon.com/Charger-Adapter-L...

By the Way, I would not recommend purchasing a aftermarket charger (Even if I did link one) for safety reasons (risk of fire, overcharging, sparking, etc.)

Hope this info helps!
