Hi,

What is the model number of the microwave oven?

I'm not sure but it sounds like you are saying that the microwave seems to operate normally but fails to heat up anything. In other words, you put a cup of coffee in, press the appropriate buttons, the oven starts (lights come on, turntable spins, timer goes off) but when the coffee comes out, it's still room temperature. This would generally indicate a faulty magnetron which is the thing that produces the microwave radiation. You can probably find the part on line if you know the model number of the oven. However, to make the repair, you would have to open up the oven and there are some very serious capacitors in there. Furthermore, the replacement magnetron can be very expensive. There are online guides to this but you need to do an online search using the brand and model number (and possibly the serial number) of the appliance. Good Luck!

@mike3

Magnetron's are fairly robust. I would check the HV diode, HV capacitor and HV transformer as these supply the voltage for the magnetron to work.

It could also be as simple as a faulty "monitor" door interlock switch.

If this fails to open and remains closed (for whatever reason) when the door is shut it bypasses (shorts out) the high voltage circuit of the microwave, preventing it from functioning
