When I drag files from desktop to my documents, the files stay dead after they were dragged. If I close Finder, the ghost-files stay on the desktop. Solve this issue usually by relaunching finder, but this is just curing the symptoms, not the disease itself. Can you tell me what might be the problem and how can it be solved?

Create a new user account (that you will delete later) and use it to check if the error persist.
You could also boot the computer from an external source and try the finder functions.

How many users do you have and were the documents created by a user other than the one you are logged in as?
