Where can I find this thermistor

Block Image

My Samsung PN58A550S1F Plasma TV was clicking before turning on, then tv would not turn on at all. I pulled the back off of the tv, looked at the power board to see if it was a bad capacitor, all capacitors look fine. However, the thermistor is shot. SCK 20100 is printed on the side. RTQ801S and RTQ802S is printed on the board under these thermistors.

Ron, did you ever find this thermistor? Mines the exact same problem and same thermistor.

Ron, you can download a datasheet for your thermistor right here. This will help you to identify the values you need to know. You could double check with companies like Mouser.com or Digikey.com and use the values to find a matching part. The SCK20100 is not available by that number. You can of course contact "THINKING ELECTRONIC INDUSTRIAL CO." The US Distributors are listed right here. They do have the NTC Thermistor:SCK Series, Power Thermistor for Limiting Inrush Current 20100.

Replacing the thermistor alone is probably going to restore functionality for a while and then the problem would likely manifest itself again.

It is possible it may happen right away, depending what caused the failure in the first place.

Long story short a thermistor usually fails for a reason and you'd usually need to replace more components than said thermistor.

Here are a few options, hope they help:

The purpose of this thermistor is to limit the inrush current. These can fail normally after a long time in use, but the most likely cause for failure is heavy current. The crackling noise could be due to the breakdown in the green thermistor (picture). If the TV works fine after replacing the thermistor then that might be the end of the problem. However if there is still signs of problems then I would suggest replacing the film capacitors that follow the thermistor. These caps are for filtering the mains and there could be more than one Class X and sometimes but rarely class Y as well. These caps are self-healing technology, they are rated in AC voltage and generate current pulses when they break then self-heal, but the process have its limits and eventually they breakdown completely. If you do replace these caps then make sure you buy a very good quality ones from a reputable seller. Of course there could be some other causes but this should your first line of action.
