After I replaced my Battery on my MacBook Air 2020, Battery Connector

After I bought a replacement battery for my MacBook Air early-2020 on iFixit, the battery connector isn’t completely flush with the connector on the motherboard, and so the battery isn’t working, is there any way to fix this issue?

I keep pushing it but I just doesn’t go in fully.

Update (07/27/24)

The system was working before the replacement, and now I am not getting any response but when I plug the computer in, it works, but I’m assuming that doesn’t use the battery, but when I unplug the computer, it just automatically shuts down.

I cannot download CoconutBattery as the computer is running at a snails pace,

But, I cannot see to find the battery charge icon in the top of the computer, that’s not normal right? Also I cannot find anything related to battery health in System preferences, so I am assuming that the battery isn’t connected to the computer, and the only reason it is on is that it is plugged in to an outlet, as when I unplug the computer, it immediately shuts down, and that the connector is not functioning right. Is that assumption correct, if so, should I ask iFixit for a replacement battery?

@eddiezhan does your system recognize that there is a new battery, or for that matter that there is a battery at all??

The two halves appear to be butted up, this is as far as it will go. Reference Step 3 image MacBook Air 13" (Anfang 2020) Akku tauschen don’t let the slightly different cable side confuse you as there are a few manufacturers and some are a little different.

Can you tell us if the system was working just before you replaced the battery. Also are you getting any response from the system.

@eddiezhan - OK, that’s helpful! Let’s see what CoconutBattery tells us. Post a snapshot of the Apps main window, it’s possible you have a bum battery.

@eddiezhan - What happens when you plug in the original battery? Does that work correctly? If you have a second system you should be able to use it to gain access to CoconutBattery to then transfer via a USB drive.


As the system is running slowly thats telling us SMC is in CPU Safe Mode! Time to run the onboard diagnostics! Restart the system and press the D key which is one of the Startup keys


Mac startup key combinations Let us know what you get. Its possible one of the other cables didn't quite connect or the battery is bad.

I tried to press the D key, and the diagnostics are not loading, but when I plug in the old battery, the computer works, so I think the battery connecter is just bad, how should I return the battery?

Do I just ship the battery back, or do I need to contact iFixit; how should I return the battery?
