Cellular Signal not possible1

Hi all,

after 1.5 year that i bought the Iphone 12 Pro suddenly the Cellular signal was 0 not able to connect with the carrier, but the WiFi was working normally! After doing some amateur troubleshooting like checking my SIM card on an other phone which was working, resetting the phone to factory settings and so on, nothing worked!

I went to an Iphone store which they told me that a Module for the Cellular Signal was defective but as the warranty had ended 6 months before i was not keen on the idea of having to pay for the repair which was not cheap as i had the phone for just a bit more than one year!

I got an other phone from a friend that i have been using until today, but now i am thinking that maybe i could try to repair the Iphone 12 Pro by my self.

Any suggestions / Info on what Module is that, is it actually changeable, were to buy it, instructions and does it worth the trouble?

Hi,

I’m not sure what they mean by module, but if the SIM socket has been damaged in some way then you would need to replace it with a new one.

Not difficult with the more later iPhones as the SIM socket is now modular, which means they can be unscrewed & unplugged, so you no longer have to have them replaced by a micro soldering business.

However, if they were talking about the IC module you won’t be able to fix it yourself and will need to take it to a micro soldering business for assessment to determine exactly what needs to be replaced.

Hi,

hmm when they said module my mind went directly to the mainboard, i never thought about the SIM Card reader if i find the part i can give it a go.

If it is the IC module well as i live in Germany and my German language its not the best i have not heard about a micro soldering business or seen something related.

I guess if i find the SIM card reader and the price is logical i might try it, if it still does not work then will see what it can be done with the IC module.

Any phone repair business will be able to direct you can get micro soldering done (if they don’t do it in house themselves).

You can get the readers pretty cheap but the cheapest I’ve found using mobile browsers is at:

Less than $10 delivered, but from China so it won’t be quick, you can also try a local iFixit shop or try eBay.

Hi, I never replaced the SIM card reader. I contacted a shop they were aware of the issue and they repaired it. I did not understood exactly what they did but replacement of something with micro soldering was involved.
