Brand new Vtech corded landline with answering system won't get a dial

I just purchased a new Vtech corded phone/answering system. MODEL CS5249. (This was not an option on the available list for this page) My current corded phone/answering system is an AT&T model. We still have analog phone service through Verizon...we do not use VoIP. I plugged the phone jack in and got a dial tone. I was able to make phone calls. I plugged the power cord in for the base /answering system and set the time and date then tried to make a call....dial tone disappeared??? When dialing anyway, I got as far as four numbers and was cut off with a message that the number cannot be dialed.... I plugged the old phone back in, worked perfectly. I tried the new phone in three other jacks in our home....same issue....no dial tone the second the base gets plugged in🤔🤔 Are Vtech phones incompatible with Verizon phone service?
