Kenmore 417 Series Won't Drain/Spin Heavy Loads

I have an older 417 series Kenmore washing machine that has recently been stopping abruptly the cycle before a drain/spin, but only on very heavy loads (towels). Once it stops, you can initiate a drain/spin and that will work. It seems to stop at various points in the cycle, therefore it needs to be fully restarted after the "manual" drain and spin. When checking codes, the machine presents code "23". I replaced the board with a refurbished one and the drain/spin issue is still present.
