No LED Light on Magsafe Adapter

I have a first generation MacBook (Core Duo) that was given to me by a friend. The MB works great except that the magsafe charger doesn't charge the battery. The MB recognizes the adapter but just says "Not Charging." I have a new battery and have tried my daughter's adapter and they work fine.

The LED light on my magsafe also doesn't light up at all. I thought the adapter might be faulty, but it seems to work on my daughter's MB. It also runs my MB when plugged into the wall; just does not charge the battery.

Could this be a problem with the MB's magsafe connector (the part inside the MB that connects to the logic board)? I'm just hoping it is not the logic board.

Thanks for any help you might be able to offer

just checking - is your daughter's Magsafe adapter a 60W version? or does she have a MacBook Air and it's corresponding 45W charger?

your MacBook needs the 60W (or higher) to charge the battery. if by chance you're trying to use the MacBook Air's 45W charger, it might run the MacBook but not have enough power to charge the battery.

if you're not using a MacBook Air charger, then ignore the above - it would be some other problem.

Thanks for the comment.

No, both MBs are the 13" Core Duo models. They are basically equivalent with 1.83 GHz processors.

Can you see the SAITE numbers on the adapters?

von

Sorry, what exactly are the SAITE numbers? Are those the output wattage, etc. of the adapter?

von

At the end of the top line on the adapter. Also is there a Apple logo on the outside of the adapter?

von

This is not an Apple adapter. It is an off-brand replacement. The numbers are: Model No. 1184; INPUT: 100 - 240V - 1.5A; 50 - 60Hz; OUTPUT: 16.5V - 3.65A.
