ASUS ROG Ally: Overheated uPI Semi uP9030P – Looking for a replacement
***
***
Hello everyone,
I have an issue with a chip in my ASUS ROG Ally Z1 Extreme. When I try to turn it on, the chip gets extremely hot (over 150°C). Even after fixing a short circuit in the circuit board, which I caused myself, the chip still overheats, leading me to believe it’s damaged. The device only lights up orange and doesn’t turn on.
According to iFixit, the chip is most likely the uPI Semi uP9030Q, responsible for power management. However, I couldn’t find it online as a replacement part.
Details about the chip:
- Marking: UP9030P4G1223
- Device: ASUS ROG Ally Z1 Extreme
- Problem: The chip overheats (over 150°C), even after fixing the short circuit.
- Does anyone have experience with this chip or know where I can find it as a replacement part? Are there any alternative chips that might be compatible?
- Thanks a lot for any help! 🙏

Thank you, @oldturkey03! Here’s the Alibaba link where I found the IC: https://www.alibaba.com/product-detail/U...
.
I’ve also attached an image of the damaged IC and its markings (see below).
Do you think the QFN version will work as a replacement for my device? If anyone has a datasheet for the uPI Semi uP9030Q or a similar IC, please share it!
Ist dies eine gute Frage?
Ich habe den Chip auf Alibaba gefunden, allerdings leider im falschen Gehäuse. Ist die Pinbelegung bei der QFN-Version die gleiche wie bei der Version, die ich benötige?

@juriklenk post a link of where you got the IC from as well as post an image of it with your Question. Let's see if we can find some sort of datasheet for it. https://de.ifixit.com/Anleitung/Bilder+z...

My device has "uP9030P" written on it, but iFixit mentions "uP9030Q." Does anyone know if these two chips are identical or at least compatible? Are there any differences in functionality or pinout?
von Jurik Lenk
@juriklenk Those letters usually do not mean that the pinout is different. If this would be my device I desolder the old IC and compare the connections to the one you have/want to purchase. If there is any reason it could not be identified, I would go ahead and try that IC anyway.
The difficulty here is that the IC still has not been properly identified and schematics are not available. So, you only have two choices. Either get a donor board and harvest the IC from that or try the one you found.

I accidentally ripped off the component marked in blue (labeled "4N3K 0") from my ASUS ROG Ally motherboard. Can anyone identify this component and suggest a compatible replacement? Any help would be greatly appreciated!
