The camera is fully operational except it sometimes turns on and off by itself, causing the battery to drain in my bag as it continuously tries to open the lens.
I have found that it is usually caused when the closed EVF gets pressed, however it also turns on when it gets shuffled around too much even though the EVF is protected.

there's a feature called "drop protection" that turns the camera off and retract the lens in case of a sudden movement or a drop. After a moment, it would restart and extend the lens. It's supposed to activate during a drop and protect the expensive lens, but it could also happen if you shake it around too hard. Turn that feature off in settings and see if it happens again. If it still try to do that, you might want to check the battery compartment for corrosion. Also, put a paper strip on top of the battery when it's inserted to prevent it from disconnecting(worked for me).

The problem is not that the camera turns off, but that the camera will turn on by itself when it is in its case. This causes it to attempt to extend and retract the lens continuously until I notice or the battery is dead. I also cannot seem to find the setting to turn off drop protection for the sony rx100 iii.
