I am needing to set the timing with out hitting the valves

@markstone746 you did not tell us what engine this is. In August 2005 all Lancers received the 2.4-liter 4G69 engine. If your engine is a 4G69 then this Mitsubishi 4G69 Engine Overhaul Page 22 will show you the timing marks and how to properly align those.
