Water Damage Under Screen, questions about opening up top.

High School student here, took my MacBook to school during a bad downpour, and when I opened it, big splotch of water on the screen that is only visible when powered on. Parents don't like the way prices look, so I wanted to figure out how to let it air out safely. The water seems contained within the screen, but a forum told me that taking of the top casing- (The part with the Apple Logo on it.) will help it to evaporate correctly and save my thousand dollar fruit computer. I don't want to go into this blind, considering that I don't have much experience in taking apart electronics, so I'd would be extremely helpful if I could get tips, instructions, etc. about how to remove the back safely.

Hopefully there is not too much pollen or acid in the rain as both can create issues long term.

To dry out a display really needs a bit of heat to force evaporation. But you don't want to cook the whole system! I would remove the display assembly following this guide MacBook Air 15" (2023) Display tauschen all three models are basically the same. Then I would take a hair dryer and a cardboard box which the display can fit into to help contain the heat. Placing the display assembly on some blocks to raise it off the table placing the box over it to figure out where the hair dryer nozzle will fit so the air flows both under and over the display, cut a hole into the box so it's reasonably close. Now on the other side along the far wall make a hole about one and a half times larger for the air to exit. Set the hair dryer at low heat (you may want to get a remote cooking thermometer so you can watch the temp of the display. Check often! You should be able to place your hand on the display without it hurting and hopefully in no time the water will have evaporated with little damaged.

If you are unsure of your skills you may want to find someone who can help you. There are a lot of little screws and some of the parts are delicate and can be damaged in the process.

If in the end the display doesn't come back to life, then it's time to just replace it which as you can see is not impossible! Here's the Apple Self Repair Store to order the display Self Repair Store. As you didn't tell us which of the three models (versions) this series has I can't tel, you the exact part you'll need once you have that that can allow you to try to find a used part or just order it from Apple directly.
