Why does my laptop turn on but the screen stay off or blackscreen

Try connecting an external monitor (TV?) to the laptop's HDMI port and check what the display from the laptop is like when viewed on the TV. Don't forget to press the Fn + F5 keys (both together) to switch the display from the laptop screen to the TV.

• If there's no display seen on the TV screen then there's a motherboard problem and further testing would be required.

• If the display seen on the TV is OK, switch the display output back to the laptop (Fn + F5) and then try shining a flashlight at an angle close to the laptop screen and check if you can see any images at all on the screen. They will be very faint if they are there so trying this in a darkened room may help.

If there are images seen on the laptop screen, then there's a backlight problem with the display. This could be due to a faulty backlight power supply on the motherboard, a faulty video cable (or cable connection) between the motherboard and the LCD panel or a faulty LCD panel.

If there are no images seen on the laptop screen then it may be a faulty video cable (or cable connection) between the motherboard and the LCD panel or a faulty LCD panel.
