Die PlayStation 2 wird oft als "PS2" bezeichnet. Sie kam in Japan im März 2000 heraus. Reparaturen erfordern nur ganz normales Werkzeug, sind aber manchmal etwas trickreich.

PS2 Fat Console Reads Non DVD Games Only After New Laser

So I picked up this Sony PlayStation 2 fat console, I believe model SCPH-30009. Originally it wouldnt turn on at all. I replaced the power board and it turns on just fine. But now it won't read discs. I purchased a replacement laser, a 400B. It originally had a 400C laser installed. I could not find a 400C laser for sell, so bought a 400B.

After installing it, I removed both soldering points, it would read non DVD games, but not DVD games. The game would spin up like it was going to read it, but just eventually stop spinning, not reading the disc. I then used laserchanger to switch the eeprom to 400B. After doing that, no disc would spin up and the laser light wouldnt even come on. So switched it back to 400C and back to just reading non DVD discs.

I thought maybe bad laser or needs adjustment. But did a return/replacement and received another laser. Same issue. Can a 400B work where a 400C was originally used? The laserchanger program seemed to make it not work at all when switching it to 400B. Is this not a laser issue? Something wrong with the main board itself?

Could it be the new power board? I bought a 3rd party brand replacement online. It shows it should work with this model and it does turn on just fine outside the laser issue. Maybe the laser is not getting the proper power? Just talking out my you know what because I have no clue at this point.

Hi!

Also Experienced the exact same issue. You CAN swap the 400C and 400B with each other but it’s not recommended.

Those lasers are really difficult to find these days. I also thought it was something on the motherboard but didn’t find anything.

Eventually I just bought another laser from a other seller and suddenly it did work! Seems that there are some broken/lame lasers out there on the market.

So I think the laser is just bad… sorry. But it still could be motherboard related. So you might want to check that out (make sure that the PS2 is not modded). Also please check if the CMOS battery is still fine, this one can also cause some weird issues.

Please let us know how it goes!
