My son recently installed a used transmission on my 1994 ford escort lx 1.9 l and now it only starts on neutral, and it won't stop at park. it keeps rolling. what can i do now.

Adjust the shift linkage/cable so that the "Park" position on the shifter is in sync with the actual "Park" position inside the transmission. This should also allow you to start it in Park as well as Neutral.

thank you. i will tell my son to try that. i'd hate to have my son replace the neutral safety switch if not necessary. He's been working on my car for five months and has been teaching himself mechanics as well as hands on. I am proud of him.
