I dropped my phone to a wood floor and its protected by a good cover. Only made a soft thud. Now no one can hear me when I speak into it unless I'm on 'speaker' mode. Seems something came unconnected but if my speaker still works on that mode, I don't follow the logic. Suggestions?

Replace dock connector mic assembly it will fix this 90% of the time. The top noise cancelling mic works on speakerphone mode and the bottom one works on regular call mode. If the voice apps and voice memos work this is the fix.

The issue you are having is the microphone located at the bottom is failing. The reason someone can hear you on speaker is because it utilizes the microphone which is located at the top of your phone. You can see it by the tiny dot close to the headphone jack. You can try to repair the issue by reseating the connector that is being held down by a plate which has two screws. Try doing a software restore (since the drop didn't sound major) but if that that doesn't work, you will probably need to replace it with a new dock connector which has the main microphone attached to it.

Your speaker (what you listen to while talking on the phone) has been damaged or has been dislodged. I would check the connection and if it does not work then the digitizer needs to be replaced. This is connected to the speaker.

It's possible that something may have come loose, broken, or slightly damaged, have you taken the phone apart yet?
