Suddenly dead device - USB charging meter. 1 of 4 ports takes some pwr

WIfe has a 15" 2017 MBP with touch. Bought used a few years back to replace 2013 15" MBP. Two days ago she was using it and it was "fine" (no details from her) and the next day it was dead and would not start. Did the normal long press power, Did SMC reset but since won't start cannot do PRAM.

I have several USB C passthrough charging meters, meaning when the USB C cable connects to meter and meter connects to device I can see what Volts/Amps/Watts are flowing. I am writing this on a HP laptop with a 65W charger brick and it is 15V/3A/45W.

When I connect this same power supply to her MBP on port 1 (top left side) I get 5V/0.0035A/for 0.0.17W - port 2-4 (other left side and both right) I get 5V/0A/0W. I get these same readings when using MBP PSU with HP or with MBP.

Clearly there is an issue but what type and what repair to fix. If one USB C port is bad does it disable all the other ports? I have examined (without disassembly) the port and cleaned them out with alcohol wipes and plastic toothpicks and the wipes came out mostly clean. I could do the USB C port replacements but would want to have someone with a similar problem that fixed it this way. If main board, not so sure about replacement.

I have an Apple store in town so will try to schedule a Genius visit but wanted to come here first.

Thanks in advance.

Update (11/01/25)

I have no idea why the answer I came up with resolved the problem but I am not going to look the gift horse in the mouth.

I called a local AASP about the "lifeboat" option for data recovery and was told that there was a removable SSD inside. Got tech to admit his 13" 2017 MBP without touch bar was not the same as wifes 15" 2017 MBP with touch bar, it made me decide to pull bottom cover off and see what I might see. Well lots of dust and possibly fans that could not spin or move air was all that I saw that seemed to be an issue. Using battery duster/vacuum I cleaned inside of MBP and bottom cover and to confirm that nothing changed, I plugged in the power adapter with measurement and saw it was charging the laptop. After an hour on the charger I was able to get the unit to power on and it has been running for about 36 hours. I had already started to try and recovery Time Machine backup to a working MBP without success and possible corrupted it so since "failed" one is working I had to clear the sparse bundle backup so that it would create a new full backup. 22 hours in and it is 67% done with another 10 hours estimated (backup to WD Cloud network drive) till completed. If anyone has ideas why this solved it I am happy to award anser status again.

Thanks.

Your logic board charging logic is damaged. Often the Texas Instruments SN650839 Power Management chip fails you can see it in the 2016 teardown which used the same logic board in Step 9 here MacBook Pro (15 Zoll, Ende 2016, Touch Bar) Teardown

I expect the failed power controller makes the most sense since it died suddenly and there is minimal power going into device on one port and zero on other ports. Answer awarded, not sure what wife will want to do. Last backup was two weeks ago and since no recovery of drive possible, it seems she is up an effluent creek with no means of propulsion.

Thanks again.

@brentquick - Well there is a way but that might not be possible as Apple no longer supports this series. On the logic board you can see in Step 3 connecter to nowhere! That's the lifeboat to gain access to your systems data using a special connection to a second Mac.
