Depend on what tools you have available to you, both of those repairs can be done at home.

With regard to the battery, your phone is rare among modern smartphones in that it's made to be user-replaceable. The back of your phone is only clipped on, and once you remove it the battery comes out with just the use of a fingernail.

Replacing the screen is obviously more complicated, but there are plenty of YouTube videos out there showing you how. Here's one that looked well done to me.

The very first part of the video shows how to remove the battery, so that should cover everything you want to know.

Tools don't have to be expensive; a good small screwdriver, guitar pick, a pair of fine tip tweezers and maybe a spudger should get you most of the way there.

However, before you replace the screen, make sure that's the problem. I'd start by eliminating the battery as the issue; verify your charger is working first. You can do that in a variety of ways, such as trying a different charger and a different cord, or try them on another device. If that doesn't help, you can try replacing the battery since it's such an easy operation on your phone.

Some simple questions might help diagnose what's going on; for instance, does the phone react in any way to anything you do, such as vibrating when you plug in the charger? How about connecting it to a computer - does the computer recognize it as being plugged in? All you said is that it's not working, but that doesn't tell us much; does it fail to show any sign of life at all, or does it do or not do something else? The more information you can give us, the better chance we have of being able to help.
