My New 3DS turns off with a pop when I open it after a certain point.

I haven't used my New 3DS in a few months and wanted to play it again. However, every time I try to boot it, it turns off with a popping sound. It only works fine if I don't open it to a certain point. I'm not very sure what could have happened as I've only had it for a year and I've been taking care of it. I never dropped it poured any liquids on it or anything like that. I also applied a clear case and screen protectors on it for extra protection not too long after buying it. I also clean the console on the outside regularly but I've only cleaned the inside once. Before I used it today, it had been in my draw for a few months. Does anyone know what the cause is? Could it be age, dust or anything else? What would I have to do to repair? Would I have to replace a flex cable? I have seen other people have this problem and the mention the flex cable, but I haven't seen anyone able to solve the problem on a New 3DS, only the older model. Any advice would be appreciated.

Hi Joshua!

Usually caused by the speaker ribbon flex cable!

Especially this > "It only works fine if I don't open it to a certain point." is pointing towards a ribbon flex cable unfortunately...

I would replace the speaker ribbon flex cable and see how that works out!

If you need any guides, please let me know. Not gonna lie, it's a difficult job to replace it..

Thanks for the answer. Do you know where to find any guides to replace the speaker flex ribbon? Also I forgot to mention in my post that ever since I had the system, the camera never worked. I was wondering if that maybe also had something to do with my problem.

Hi!

My pleasure!

The only thing I can found is this (old 3DS): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GJZA-y9v...

I think this is related to the speaker ribbon cable. Anyway, your 3DS did boot with a broken camera right? So I think this is OK. But... While you are there at, I would replace the camera right away.
