I just tried to replace both thumbsticks on my Xbox Wireless 1914 controller (900hrs of Isaac, no regrets). The sticks have gone in, reassembled everything, tried to calibrate in Xbox Accessories on my PC, and it's not detecting any input from the sticks. When I flip over to Steam's controller tester, all buttons on the controller are working (even the stick click from pushing them down), but the X-Y axis are locked at 32767 and -32768. I've gone back and redone the soldering on all four potentiometers and no change in behavior.

One thing that I did have question about was the black and black/white wires on the side pads, as the guide did not specify if there was a specific order they should go back in (and I don't recall what positioning they had before I started). I don't know if that would even have any effect on what I'm experiencing, but I'm grasping at straws. Is there anything that would be recommended to fix this?

Edit: After some further testing, I also discovered that both triggers are not registering any motion in the Steam tester. Bumpers work, though.

I'm going to ask a pretty stupid question, but are you certain you bought the right joystick? Almost all the joysticks used on various controllers look almost identical, so it's easy to buy the wrong model. If the model of the joysticks is wrong, then the potentiometers data would be wrong as well, which would result in both x and y not registering at all. I once soldered a series x's joystick onto a switch pro controller and spent the whole afternoon trying to figure out what's wrong. Anyway, make sure the joysticks you bought are for the Xbox series s/x controllers only, and it would be helpful to show us a picture of the solder pads and the joystick.

If the model of the joystick is correct, though, make sure the solder pads aren't damaged. A picture would really help now. If you can, try to put the original ones on and see if they're working(if the original joysticks still work).

Also, here's a picture of the correct positions of the wires, identical for both side.

If the wires are reversed, theoretically only the trigger motors would be affected, since they control the motors only. This little black sensor here's the magnetic sensor, make sure you didn't accidentally damage it.

However, it could be the issue of the steam software, and I'd advise you to use the xbox accessories app for testing.

I'd be happy to add some photos, just a moment. As for the other questions: the bar code of what I ordered says it was a IF462-021-1, and speaking with iFixIt's chatbot indicated that it was correct for my model of controller. Unfortunately, the prior joysticks were cut apart for removal, so putting them back in won't be an option.

Thank you for the photos of the black/white wiring; if the white wire is supposed to go high side, then I have the right side wiring reversed.

I have tried to use the Xbox Accessories application, but when I go into it both sticks are not registering at all during calibration, or if I press a button suddenly the selection cursor shoots off to the right and I can't go back left to select anything (it will give like a frame or two of trying to go left before the constant right input overrides and takes it back that direction).

I just corrected the black/white wiring and re-tested; no change in behavior. Both applications act like neither joystick is being touched until I press any button and suddenly the sticks both dive down and right as hard as their indicators will allow.

The controller showed up as a Xbox One controller in Steam, though. I'm beginning to suspect that the issue isn't with the controller but the steam controller app...

Try using the Xbox Accessory App for further testing, I don't think Steam recognized your controller model correctly.

Try updating it in the Xbox accessory app as well, sometimes old drivers causes problems like this.

You'll need USB for this, so make sure you have a USB-C data cable.

Added photos for Xbox Accessories. No updates available, and when I try to recalibrate it just sits at that screen as rotating the stick does not register. Only way for me to back out of calibration is to close the program.
