Clicking disc drive and black video out with audio

My unit on startup has a disc drive that's clicking and a black screen output, however wii remotes connect and audio out works. The issue is not with the cable or tv as I have tested several other units with the exact same setup with all of them behaving correctly. I tried resetting the resolution, and also the console doesn't require a hard reset to turn off. I also saw a split second of janky/inverted video when testing it just now.

Can a faulty disc drive cause the wii to freak out this much? My original guess was an unseated bluetooth module was to blame as I read several posts about that, however my remotes still connect fine so I'm guessing that's not the issue? Any guesses to what is causing this?

Hi!

Nope, most likely not related to the drive, unfortunately. But the click sound most likely is. So maybe the drive is also bad.

Could be caused by multiple things:

1: The Wii is modded before and bricked. What happens if you turn it on and hold the “reset” button? Does something come up?

2: Bluetooth chip related, less likely as your Wii Remotes want to connect. But you can always try with a new bluetooth chip and see what happens.

3: Faulty GPU or any other component on the motherboard. Most likely the GPU is bad and you want to replace the motherboard. This is the most likely thing that happened, unfortunately, also the most expensive part.

Nothing comes up when holding reset unfortunately. I'll try the bluetooth module but like you said unlikely. Is ebay a reputable place to find new mobos? They seem about the same price as a disc drive replacement even for the ones that are claimed to be "tested/working"

Yes that is fine. You can also try AliExpress.

The only thing you can do is to check the reviews, if they are fine it should be good most of the time. It's hard to find a new motherboard these days :(.
