Light Meter Malfunctioning with the Lens Aperture

The LED's in the camera for the light meter are working, and respond when the shutter speed is adjusted. But the light meter will not respond for any change in lens aperture. The aperture on the lens itself, aperture setting, and aperture setting pin on the lens are all functioning as intended. What is the likely cause of the meter malfunction and recommended repair? Level of difficulty?
