The detent plate on the bottom underneath the degree-scale can be adjusted. You first need to remove the degree-scale from the top to access the adjustment screws. Then you can loosen them and slide the detent plate to make it square. The easiest way to do this is to lock the saw at 90 degrees and set it square with a known good square. Then tighten the bolts again and reinstall the degree-scale. Once reinstalled you can set the degree-pointer at 90 degrees when locked in position.
