Possible to replace stock joystick with Elite ones?

I noticed that the Series and Elite controllers seems to have similar joystick solder pad locations...

I would really like the tension adjustments available in the Elite controller but don't want to buy another since I already own 3 controllers. Would it be possible to swap the Elite joysticks onto the Series controller if the position of the solder pads are the same? It doesn't matter if it won't fit inside the casing, I can simply cut part of the casing to make the tension adjustment joysticks fit, but the main question is whether the joystick are interchangeable. It's hard to tell the exact location in only the pictures and I don't know whether the wipers are identical.

Can anyone who happens to have both the Series and Elite controller or know about the joysticks tell me whether they are interchangeable? I know it's a pretty crazy mod, but it sounds pretty plausible to me.
