I have had my 1999 graphite iMac g3 for a while now, but I noticed a recurring issue. When I boot up my iMac, there is no start up chime. I first replaced the p-ram battery, still no startup chime. Checked the speakers on itunes, the speakers were fine. Is there a setting I do not know about?

OK, the Startup tone setting in the OS (firmware) needs to be reset, if it stopped working on its own then a PRAM reset should fix it, if the version of OS-X Apple disabled it presently installed there's a terminal command you can re-enable it. What is the OS-X version you have? Here's how to reset the PRAM How to reset NVRAM on a Mac if the AC power is disrupted even if the system is not on the PRAM battery may need replacing as well.

@oldturkey03 When I boot my Mac, It is the same as any other mac just without the chime.

@danj Yes, the speaker work fine in everything else except the boot up chime.
