Can I just repair the front glass (screen)?

I used IFIXIT to repair my iPhone 4s years ago and it came out fine!

Now my wife has an iPod touch 7th gen that she dropped and the glass (screen?) is broken. It is like a cracked window. The unit still works fine, but I would like to replace the glass. In reading the detailed procedure on your website, I wonder if I need to do all the steps required (like detaching the home button, the lightning connection, speaker, moving the battery out of the way, etc. all to just replace the front glass? It seems like a lot of work!

Yes and no since it's a bonded unit. If you do not know how to debond the LCD from the glass and do the UV LOCA process, no. If you have the equipment and experience, yes... Most do not, though.

You are better off doing the assembly since you can't mess it up.

the part your referring to is called a digitizer and you can replace it but make sure you order the correct one!
