Modell A1502 / 2,4, 2,6, oder 2,8 GHz Dual-Core Intel Prozessor / Erschienen im Oktober 2013

Fan spin no chime no post no display

I have a 2013 A1502 here that won't boot into the system.

We have removed the battery as it was finished..... so we plug the charger and we have the usual green > orange light and a fan spin, but that is it, nothing happens after. The SSD is good as we tested it in another same year model and a system is present (Big Sur). PRAM & SMC resets have been attempted but I have no idea if they were of any success. I can only presume that we have an issue on the board, @oldturkey03 any suggestions what can be the culprit as I cannot see anything that looks dodgy on the board?

@livfe did it startup before you removed the battery? Have you tried a new battery yet? You board is a 820-3476-A or a 820-3536-A?

von

@oldturkey03 2.4 GHz 4 GB Model, I don't see any board number on it.... maybe the 820-3536 as there are 8 RAM chips on it, where the other has 16 (Same side)?.

With or without any battery same... fan spin nothing more.

With or without any SSD same..... FS & zero.

@livfe let me check those boards as soon as I am at my house :)

@oldturkey03 U7400 I/C was corroded, we replaced the pads and chip, all is fine now!

@livfe since the fans spin and the charger light is working the primary power rails are ok. The fan spin with no chime is commonly caused by a bad secondary power rail. Check for corrosion around U6100 and measure PP3V3_S0 at pin 8. If that is missing or unstable you've found the cause. On the 820-3476 board check the U7100 (ISL6259) check the SMC_BC_ACOK signal. For that you would need to check for 3.3V on either pin 2 of R7010 or pin 1 of R7105 (easiest). Also check U7501.

U7100 would be my primary suspect :-)

Here is U6100

and here Q8150

here are the board locations for those components

@livfe here are the locations on those boards. For now these are for U7100 only. I'll have to do the rest later :-)

@livfe hope I picked the right board. This is what happens when I do stuff after work :) You know you can always post some pictures of the board which does help to ID it :-)

@oldturkey03 2.4 GHz 4 GB RAM -points to the 820-3536 as there are 8 RAM chips on it, where the 820-3476 has 16 Chips.

Where can we find replacements for these chips as I only have A1465, A1466, A1278 donors here :(

von

@livfe if you give me the board numbers for the boards you have, I can show you where they are located, if those boards have them which is pretty likely.

von

@oldturkey03 The donor boards I have are : 820-00165 / 820-3115 / 820-3435

Hi, @livfe I gotchu.

@oldturkey03 is not available at the moment, so I will answer the question.

Look for suspiciousness in the whole system. Otherwise, ask FixBot for help.

The system didn't boot up so how can I look for any 'auspiciousness'. Board looks clean with no visible blown components.......

von

Dude, ask Fixbot

Ok I will call @oldturkey03 right now

@ahmadawick try FixBot and tell us what it says.

On the MacBook Pro A1502, fan spin with no chime, no POST, and no display usually points to a logic board power rail issue rather than SSD or battery. Since MagSafe goes green → orange, PP3V42_G3H is likely present, but you may be missing a main rail like PP5V_S0 or PP3V3_S0. Check for liquid damage around the SMC and U7100 area. Also inspect the BIOS chip (corrupt firmware can cause no POST). Try booting with trackpad/keyboard disconnected and check for shorted rails with a multimeter. If rails are missing, board-level repair or replacement is likely required.
