@glenngrodski unplugging the saw is essential :)
Set the multimeter to the lowest (ohms) setting, or use continuity mode (buzzer) (depends on what your meter has). Connect one probe to one end of the wire and the other probe to the opposite end. If your meter shows a low resistance reading it indicates a good (closed) circuit, while "OL" or "1" means a break (open) in the circuit.
