Reparaturanleitungen und Informationen zur Demontage für die Laptops der 3. Generation des ThinkPad X1 Carbon von Lenovo.

X1 Carbon Gen 3 - turns on but no display, no error code, no beep.

Hi,

Till yesterday my X1 Carbon Gen 3 - Type 20BT was working fine, two days before internal battery failure message displayed while working on windows 10,

And like a year throwing CMOS battery error message about time date error while booting, pressed esc and laptop was working fine with laptop charger.

Today I didn't turn on.

since laptop internal battery is dead so connecting charger is the only power source.

once laptop charger is connected, laptop power button led ,keyboard backlight turns and function key led (fn) turns on and power button Led stays on but keyboard backlight and funtion key led (fn) goes off and no display, no beep code.

CPU turns on for 2 sec and goes off.

Tried with external monitor - no luck.

Tried resseting the Reset button with internal battery connected and disconnected (with back cover installed because there is a switch to check whether backcover is installed or not) - no luck.

RAM are soldered so nothing to do...

Diese Frage beantworten Ich habe das gleiche Problem

Ist dies eine gute Frage?

Hi @karunanitheem

"....throwing CMOS battery error message..." is the clue.

The laptop has a coin cell cmos battery connected to the motherboard which is used to maintain the BIOS settings when the laptop is turned off.

This is a non rechargeable battery so when the battery voltage drops from the normal 3V to below approx 2.4V the BIOS can become corrupted which can prevent the laptop from starting.

You are unlucky as the battery is connected on the underside of the motherboard, so to replace it, the motherboard has to be removed from the base assembly.

Here's the hardware maintenance manual for the laptop.

Go to p.69 (75 of 98 pdf) in the manual to view the procedure to remove the systemboard and then the coin cell battery.

Search online for 00HN933 to find suppliers that suit you best.

Once the battery has been replaced and the laptop reassembled, when you start the laptop (if it turns on) there may be a message stating that the date and time are incorrect. This is normal as the BIOS has been reset back to its factory default state by the disconnection of the cmos battery during the replacement procedure. Once the date and time have been corrected, the message won't appear the next time the laptop is turned on. Also any user definable BIOS settings that were changed by you, to suit whatever system requirements you wanted, will have to be changed back again as well.

Try removing the battery, it may not be powering on due to the faulty battery to protect the components from damage. Once removed, try plugging in the charger again and power on

@karunanitheem have you also tried to remove the cmos battery?

Most lenovo laptops have a reset button to hard reset the board. It is generally a small hole at the bottom of the casing, insert something thin like a paper clip and keep it held for 30-60 seconds

yup,,tried it and mentioned it on my post. still no luck.

Apologies, I missed you had checked that. That is all I can think of to get out working unfortunately. I have had 2 of these laptops from different generations and they have both failed. Sorry, I cannot be of more help.

Same issue here, literally everything you mentioned, same model etc…. Did you manage to get it working or find an alternative ?
