My MyBook fell to the floor right where the USB connector plugs into the USB port. It has no symptoms of hard drive damage but I believe it needs a new connection port that is unique.

If the USB port on your WD My Book is damaged, the easiest fix is to open the case and connect the internal drive directly using a SATA-to-USB adapter or dock. If the port is part of the board, a technician can replace or repair the USB interface board. If the data is important and you’re unsure, its safer to go to a professional data recovery service instead of trying to fix it yourself.
