Why is my cpu clock speed always dropping to 0.79ghz?

Okay so I have a Dell xps 15 9560 core i5 7th gen 4gb dedicated gtx 1050

So the cpu clock speed always drop to 0.79-0.80ghz every time I run a game. Thereby causing the game and the laptop to lag.

I’ve cleaned the motherboard, the fans, and opened the cpu and gpu and the thermal paste still intact and not dry

I’ve cleaned the heat dessipitating panel.

I’ve undervolted it yet it still happens.

How do I fix this issue? Does that mean I can’t game with the laptop?

@mimsmemes what are the technical requirements for the game? Is it just one game or most games? the GTX1050 is considered and entry level card and may not have the oomph to run your game. Try to lower the resolution etc.

Okay actually pes 2017 works very fine no issues

But fifa23 which works very well on my older 2gb dedicated dell latitude lags with the cpu clock speed at 0.79-0.8ghz

At first it runs smoothly but then few minutes into the game it starts lagging (the cpu clock speed drops) but once I close the game the speed returns back to about 3.24ghz

Just verifying that there's only 4GB memory is installed in the laptop?

If so then usually that's not enough to run the games satisfactorily causing the CPU to work harder and slow down.

Looking at the specifications for the model series, the laptop supports up to a maximum of 32GB of DDR4 2400MHz memory in two slots i.e. 2 x 16GB modules.

Usually 16GB is sufficient for most games but as games get more intricate you may wish to consider installing 32GB. Your choice.

If you decide to upgrade the memory, here's the service manual that may help.

Go to p.40 to view the procedure to remove/replace the memory.

Also if Windows is installed on a HDD in the laptop you may want to replace the sata HDD with a 2.5" sata SSD to get a boost in performance as well

The 4gb is the vram (dedicated)
