So I got a PlayStation3 Slim model CECH-2004A, PAL 120, I guess; and when I press the power button, green light, it beeps three times and then red blinking light. Is it the famous Yellow Light Of Death? What can I do? (weird fact: i checked the HDD and it said it was 40GB, is it possible?)

Yep, sound like YLOD…
First you need to take the motherboard out and remove the thermal paste.
Guide: PlayStation 3 Slim Wärmeleitpaste ersetzen
Pleaee try a reflow first. Guide:Yellow Light of Death Reparatur mit YLOD-Kit (I know that this is regarding the PS3 Phat, but just to give you the idea).
Does that work? Then the solder is broken under the CPU/GPU. Most of the time, this fix is temporary. A reballing will fix it, but is very difficult…
Would try the reflow first!

Hey, could i try using thermal pads instead od thermal paste? I know this will be a tough repair, but I'd like to know if the pads would be more durable. Also, if I repair it and hack it, what temp should I use to try not having this problem again?

No, you really need to use some new thermal paste. Thermal pads is insufficient and will cause the PS3 to overheat.
For the reflow? I always do it at 430 celcius degrees. Works fine for me. Be carefull for the other components…
