I'm not sure what the problem is but there are really really white spots all over the dishes I thought it was that I changed back to powder from dishwashing pods but it's doing that with the pods as well

Sounds like hard water or low rinse aid rather than the detergent, since it's happening with both powder and pods.
Check your rinse aid level first, then if your machine has a water hardness setting, make sure it matches your actual water. Also worth checking if it's mostly glasses/dark dishes getting spots (could be etching) vs everything (more likely just mineral buildup).
Quick test: run an empty load with a small bowl of white vinegar on the bottom rack. If the spots clear up, it's mineral deposits.
