Hi @aussiescot

Have you tried using different audio inputs besides radio (AM/FM) e.g. CD, Bluetooth, USB, Aux input to check whether it is a audio out problem (all inputs - no audio heard in speakers) or if it's just a radio (AM/FM) problem (all other inputs OK - audio heard in speakers)?

If it's just a radio problem it could be an antenna problem or a problem with the radio circuit in the unit. Not sure if the following will work but try an auto scan of radio stations to see if the unit indicates that it is picking up the radio signals from the various AM and FM stations in your location. You won't hear anything but if the unit pauses on each known station before moving on with the scan this indicates that the antenna is OK.

If there's no audio heard from any input type then it could be a faulty speaker cable connection on the back of the unit (all the speakers are wired to the one harness cable plug) or a problem in the unit itself.

Here's a link from the service manual showing how to remove the entertainment unit which will allow access the cables in the rear of the unit so that you can check if the cables are securely connected.

Here's the system wiring diagram that may also help.

Since the display works and fuses are intact, the no-sound issue is likely caused by a failed factory amplifier, a software glitch, or a malfunctioning audio module. The intermittent nature progressing to total failure strongly points toward a dying component or loose connection.

Key Troubleshooting Steps:

  • Perform a System Reset: Disconnect the car battery for 10–15 minutes to fully reset the infotainment system and amplifier.
  • Check Amplifier Power: Locate the separate amplifier (often in the trunk or under a seat) and verify its power/ground connections.
  • Check for Hidden Amp Fuses: Some amplifiers have a dedicated fuse located directly on the unit itself, separate from the main fuse box.
  • Inspect Speaker Wiring: Look for shorted wires (e.g., in door jams) that can cause the amplifier to go into protection mode.
  • Check for Software Updates: Some vehicles (like Fords/GMs) require firmware updates to resolve amplifier communication failures.

If the amplifier is receiving power but not producing sound, it likely needs replacement.
