Hi!

If your device has gotten in contact with water turn off your laptop immediately. Use paper towels to clean up all the excess water. Then open the device and disconnect the battery.

iFixit has a troubleshooting page for what to do in regards to Laptop Liquid Damage, you can read it here: Laptop is Liquid Damaged.

Start by turning off your laptop, disconnect all cables, and cleanup up excess water with paper towels.

Then you will need to open the bottom cover of the laptop to get inside, the Hardware Maintenance Manual shows how you open the bottom cover on page 56.

Then check page 58 to 59 in the Hardware Maintenance Manual for how to remove the battery.

Your next step will be cleaning the circuit boards, which you will do with Isopropyl Alcohol, any IPA with at least 90% purity is good enough for this job. To quote the Laptop is Liquid Damage guide linked above:

Cleaning the Damaged Components

You will need to clean the components that have been liquid-damaged.

  1. Be sure to remove anything that is attached to your motherboard. Remove all cables, open all connectors, and remove shields to access the underneath components.
  2. In a suitably sized container, submerge the components in high-concentration isopropyl alcohol. Ideally, you want to use a 90% or higher concentration from a pharmacist or drug store. You can also use distilled or deionized water as an alternative cleaning fluid, although this will take longer to dry. Avoid all solvents such as ketone, acetone, or naphtha.
  3. Using a soft-bristle toothbrush or other soft brush, clean the logic board of any debris or corrosion deposits left on the board. Please pay attention to the connectors and the ends of any ribbon cables to prevent any corrosion of their contact surfaces. You can also use a Precision Cleaning Kit to clean more delicate components. Be cautious when cleaning the board to avoid damaging or accidentally removing components from the board. If available, use an ultrasonic cleaner to clean any exposed areas of the board and corrosion from areas a brush cannot reach.
  4. Once you finish cleaning the components and there is no corrosion, use a hairdryer on its cold setting and dry the components. Alternatively, the components can be placed under a desk lamp to warm them and dry out the cleaning fluid gently.
  5. Check the cable ends and all the connectors before reassembling your device for any signs of corrosion or debris. Once you are confident that your device is free of liquid damage and corrosion, reassemble your device.

After you are done cleaning, I would advice waiting 24-48 hours to let the laptop completely dry.

Follow the instructions, both the ones here, and the other instructions in the Laptop is Liquid Damaged guide and you will have hope of recovering your laptop!

Good luck,

Cheers.

I am to add, as this already has caused your laptop damage (causing a black-screen) there is a moderate risk you will need to replace components if they've become irreversibly damaged, however that can only be assess after the clean-up. Still, with swift action, thorough cleaning, and maybe some luck your system could be restored without further damage.

Hello, @christian27293

First off, IMMEDIATELY OPEN UP THE DEVICE AND DISCONNECT THE BATTERY! DON'T USE RICE, AS IT CAN DAMAGE YOUR DEVICE MORE THAN THE WATER ALREADY HAS! GET ISOPROPYL ALCOHOL 99%+, SOMETHING TO SCRUB THE MOTHERBOARD WITH, AND GET SCRUBBING! DO NOT LISTEN TO ANY GUIDES THAT INCLUDES USING RICE TO "SOAK UP" THE WATER! DO NOT WAIT IT OUT, JUST ACT!
