Asus ROG Ally: ASUS ROG Ally: Overheated uPI Semi uP9030P – Looking for a replacement

***

***

Hello everyone,

I have an issue with a chip in my ASUS ROG Ally Z1 Extreme. When I try to turn it on, the chip gets extremely hot (over 150°C). Even after fixing a short circuit in the circuit board, which I caused myself, the chip still overheats, leading me to believe it’s damaged. The device only lights up orange and doesn’t turn on.

According to iFixit, the chip is most likely the uPI Semi uP9030Q, responsible for power management. However, I couldn’t find it online as a replacement part.

Details about the chip:

Marking: UP9030P4G1223

Device: ASUS ROG Ally Z1 Extreme

Problem: The chip overheats (over 150°C), even after fixing the short circuit.

Does anyone have experience with this chip or know where I can find it as a replacement part? Are there any alternative chips that might be compatible?

Thanks a lot for any help! 🙏

Update (01/18/25)

Thank you, @oldturkey03! Here’s the Alibaba link where I found the IC: https://www.alibaba.com/product-detail/U...

.

I’ve also attached an image of the damaged IC and its markings (see below).

Do you think the QFN version will work as a replacement for my device? If anyone has a datasheet for the uPI Semi uP9030Q or a similar IC, please share it!

Asus ROG Ally: Repairing a dead unit

I brought a Rog ally off eBay with a bios lock on it, my plan for that was to pin directly to the bios chip and flash it. However, upon receiving the device it now has no signs of life.

Upon taking it apart I can see it has been opened before and a bigger battery has been put it.

When inspecting the board I can see any obvious signs of damage but I have noticed that if I disconnect the main ribbon cable from the left joystick board and then plug it into power I now get a red led on the charging light. It stays solid for a few seconds and then flashes. When this happens it draws around 20.12v at 0.010a. when I reconnect the joystick board I get no led.

My first thought is that there is something wrong with the joystick board. I just wanted to see if anyone has had any similar issues before and if they know if the device can still boot if the joysticks are not connected.

Thanks in advance

Asus ROG Ally: USB-C port not charging with power delivery

A few days ago, the usb-c port of my ally had stopped charging with the provided adapter. It still connects (a white LED shows up when connected in sleep mode), but it will not charge it, no matter what side of the usb I used.

Right now it only charges with low power cables, the kind that you would use for phones, and (as far as I know) only works on one side of the cable. Obviously it means that I can't use it and charge at the same time, I'd have to wait about 8-9 hours just for it to charge 60%. Non-charging cables work as well, but again only on one side.

I took the ally to two repair shops, both of which did nothing to fix the problem (thinking the adapter was the problem). I think it has to do with the port itself, or somehow a bios update. I hope this could get fixed soon, I don't want have to return it.

----------

Edit: Thanks to JiYoW (@luunfmr2mlkysbv) for helping me out! The solution is to try and switch the "batter care" on the MyAsus app on and off a couple of times, and also the full-charge mode as well just to be safe. Then fully turn off the ally, plug in the charger, and then turn it back on, Very simple!

I'll keep this question open in case the solution doesn't work for someone else, and if others have others ways to fix this (hopefully without going into too many repair shop beforehand 😅)

Lenovo Legion Go: Right Controller RGB stuck on faint blue light after 0% shutdown

I ran into a really frustrating issue with my Lenovo legion fo right controller and I need some help.

My Lenovo Legion Go died( hit 0% battery and shutdown forcefully). I plugged the charger in and turned on the device back on immediately.
Ever since reboot, my right controller‘s joystick is stuck glowing a hfaint blue light( only on the right side of the ring). The left controller works normally and responds to RGB Color changes. The right RGB ignores Lenovo Space and even if i turn off the RGB, the faint blue light stays on.

The controller is 100% functional otherwise.

What I have tried so far:

pinhole reset

calobration mode

holding Legion R + RB + RS to force a hardware reset, but nothing changed

Completely power off the Legion Go

Check for controller firmware updates

Is my RGB driver chip permanently fried from the voltage drop or something else ?

Thanks in advance for any advice!
